Consider this a wild and free opportunity to reframe the visual understanding of gender though art!  We’ll photograph and be photographed in manners that speak to our mutability as people.  We aim to re-visualize what it means to be a female/male, feminine/masculine or a socially gender-coded subject by being the subjects and creators of our own feminist photo shoot!

To shoot, BYOC (bring your own camera, or $5 to take one of our disposables)

FOLLOWED BY A LIVE SKETCH BEGINNING @ 3:30PM.

Join us at Eris Temple Arts for a screening of THE PURITY MYTH: THE VIRGINITY MOVEMENT’S WAR AGAINST WOMEN and CREATE CHAOS! film submissions.

About the The Purity Myth:
In this video adaptation of her bestselling book, pioneering feminist blogger Jessica Valenti trains her sights on “the virginity movement” - an unholy alliance of evangelical Christians, right-wing politicians, and conservative policy intellectuals who have been exploiting irrational fears about women’s sexuality to roll back women’s rights. From dad-and-daughter “purity balls,” taxpayer-funded abstinence-only curricula, and political attacks on Planned Parenthood, to recent attempts by legislators to de-fund women’s reproductive health care and narrow the legal definition of rape, Valenti identifies a single, unifying assumption: the myth that the worth of a woman depends on what she does - or does not do - sexually. In the end, Valenti argues that the health and well-being of women are too important to be left to ideologues bent on vilifying feminism and undermining women’s autonomy.

If you’re frustrated with the “benevolent sexism” of bar culture and the drink names you see on the cocktail menu, then join us for this event where we’ll examine the norms surrounding the bar experience and the stereotypes that feed them. We’ll then mix our own drinks with a feminist twist.

*This is a free event, but bring a few dollars to donate if you plan to drink.
